Description: Students create a school-wide bulletin board to help motivate student, staff, parents and community achievement, accomplishments, and goals throughout the school year.
The bulletin board is divided into multiple disciplinary categories. The learning community is encouraged to add their thoughts and accomplishments to the board in the their own creative way.
Resources: Multiple Intelligences
Michigan Grade Level Content Expectations On Innovation
Materials: foam boards to be mounted to a bulletin board or wall, misc. materials from Arts and Scraps, pre-cut letters, pictures and objects to describe sub-titles.
Procedures:
- Brainstorm sub-titles for bulletin board. Adapt to the needs of your students. We did not use Gardner's exact titles for our board. You may want to add dreams, what we want to learn, what we have learned. Our example included Sports, Science, Academics, School/ Outside Activities, and Community.
- This project should begin at the beginning of the year with teachers introducing and discussing the objective of the project. Discussions could include supporting activities. Students may view OnInnovation site and participate in career day. Talk about character traits and how to set goals.
- Teachers may want to start the board off, which will in turn, encourage students and others to add to the board.
- In time the board will grow more and more as everyone acknowledges their accomplishments.
