Performing Arts

KQED Education Network and The Institute for the Study of Knowledge Management in Education present a dynamic training session tailored to K-12 arts educators' and teaching artists' needs.
Participants will gain:
- Tools to incorporate media related to the performing arts into curricula.
- Hands-on performing arts and multi-disciplinary approaches to teaching and learning using materials available for free online.
- Open access to lessons and other materials that support arts classrooms.
- Experience finding and sharing resources with others using online networking and digital media tools and methods.
- Practice in resource search and identification, and an introduction to licensing that makes content legal to adapt and share online.
- Continued online support and networking through the "Open Educational Resources (OER) Commons" web site and education program.
Participants will also receive free KQED content on DVD, including 20 short documentaries about Bay Area performing artists and arts organizations.
About KQED Education Network and ISKME:
KQED Education Network engages with community and educational organizations to broaden and deepen the impact of KQED media to effect positive change. Education Network reaches more than 200,000 Bay Area residents a year and partners with educational and community organizations, early childhood education programs, youth media programs, schools and school districts, colleges and universities, and the California Department of Education.
The Institute for the Study of Knowledge Management in Education (www.iskme.org) is an independent, nonprofit research institute that conducts social science research in education, develops research-based innovations, and facilitates field building to improve knowledge sharing. ISKME’s training and professional development supports teachers and schools in effective uses of digital content and collaboration as part of a larger model for systemic change in education through knowledge sharing. Supported by the Ford Foundation, ISKME is building partnerships with leaders of teacher education centers, districts, schools, cultural and governmental organizations to support open, equitable, and high-quality arts participation in K-12 classrooms.
