Review concept of tableau (this was introduced as a separate lesson prior to this lesson). Review purpose and use of sketchbooks.

Divide students into groups of 2. Each group is to collaborate/create a tableau using a set of homophones Classmates then attempt to guess the homophones..

Whole class: student audience records sketches of homophones in their sketchbook, using correct labeling. This can be done during each tableau performance and/or after. Teacher records each homophone pair on the chart paper to keep up in class.

Closure:

Think, Pair, Share Have students pair up with a classmate who was NOT in his/her group. Have them share what they learned and what they felt was easy or challenging with the activity.

Whole class discussion of homophones generated, checking to see if any were missed. Whole class discussion and sharing of the collaboration/tableau process (how the students felt about performing, what was easy, what was difficult, etc.)

Extension Activity:

Groups create a comic strip version of their skit to be compiled into a class homophone book.
