ISKME's Teachers as Makers 2011 Professional Development Summer Academy is an opportunity for teachers to create, share, collaborate and be inspired by experiencing DIY Projects that they can easily adapt to their teaching.

A two day professional development teacher training opportunity for the Maker inside each of us. We will explore OER—freely remixable curriculum—and Maker-Teacher collaborations to facilitate innovation in the classroom. The Makers’ projects are points of inspiration for Teachers while they engage in design-thinking activities to create, remix, and share OER with online collaborative tools.

Maker Teacher Collaboration
- Maker Projects: Innovative makers inspire teachers with their Maker Projects. Teachers get the opportunity to experience, create, and discuss Maker Projects and reflect on how the ideas covered can be incorporated into their teaching.
- Weaving with Richard, The Henry Ford: Richard is a former Ford Company Engineer and runs the weaving workshop in Greenfield Village at the Henry Ford. He brought his looms and taught teachers how to weave using yarn.
- Needle Arts with Suzanne, The National NeedleArts Association http://needleartsmentoring.org http://tnna.org: Suzanne is an artist and teacher who has worked locally and in Africa with Needle Arts. She shared knitting, crocheting, and stitching projects working with yarn, telephone wire, video cassette tape, plastic bags and strips.
- PVC Marshmellow Shooters with Levi and Will White http://www.greensheepfelt.com: Levi (15 years old) and Will (10 years old) are young makers who found marshmellow shooter resources online, created their own kits, and exhibited them at Maker Faire.
- Rockets with Michael: Michael is a Science Teacher in Ann Arbor, Michigan who created his rocket project and has done it with students for the past 10 years. He shared how to do his rocket project with repurposed materials (water bottles, easter eggs, duct tape, cardboard) and launched it.
