Lesson Title: Eek, There's a Mouse in the House

Topic: Reenacting Story Using Tableau

Materials Used:

Pictures scenes from the story, "Eek, There's a Mouse in the House."

Main Lesson

Opening/Introduce Lesson

Teachers will do warm up stretches. Examples: Let's do warm up stretches: Prunes, sunshine, pull a tree, I have no neck. Students will use their bodies and faces to represent different objects and expressions.

Main Activity (Instruction)

Teacher picks out a scene and acts out a scene with two student volunteers. Students have to identify if this scene is from the beginning, middle, or end of the story.

Main Activity (Check for Understanding)

Teacher will explain a think, pair, share activity. Students will describe what they will be doing with a partner.

Main Activity (Guided Practice)

Teacher will provide different pictures from the story for each group to choose. Teacher will circulate to provide support to each group as they prepare their tableau. In small groups, students will practice their scenes and present it to an audience. Children from the audience will identify the animal that is being portrayed in the tableau.

Provide monitoring

Teacher will observe students, and provide support as needed, while they are planning their tableaux.

Check for understanding

Teachers will note if students are able to identify the animals that are being portrayed in the tableau.

Modify/adapt for all

Teachers can strategically group the students.

Closure (Debrief, find out what your students learned, share work and give positive feedback, summarize work and behavior)

In the format of a community circle, teacher can ask questions: What did your group members do well? What did you like about the activity? What could you have done better? Students share their responses with partners. Students can also volunteer to share their answers with the entire class.

How will you follow up this lesson with homework or other extension activities? Students will perform additional tableaux with other stories.
