a. Students know different plants and animals inhabit different kinds of environments and have external features that help them thrive in different kinds of places. b. Students know how to infer what animals eat from the shapes of their teeth (e.g., sharp teeth: eats meat; flat teeth: eats plants).

Opening & Introduction
Someone in the classroom wears a mask of a mouse. Teacher exclaims, " Eek! There's a mouse."... and points to the person wearing the mouse mask.
Teacher then explains that we will be making animal masks today.
Teacher Actions
Teacher takes out a tub of animals / pictures of animals. Models how to sketch (Ghost lines..etc.) Gives direction for students to sketch a drawing of their plan. Explains that students will decorate their masks using various materials.
Example
Create a mask with feathers and sharp teeth. Explanation: "My animal can fly and eat meat."
Student Actions
Students will sketch an animal from the story "Eek There's a Mouse in the House." They then create a mask of the animal they sketched using the materials and scraps.
