Cunha Laptop
From OER Commons Wiki
The 2010 BookServer and the Digital Classroom project is supported by the Internet Archive and is facilitated by ISKME. In this research project, Deborah Cowden and her ELD class of 25 students at Cunha Middle School will have the opportunity to use all digital materials for student readings, assignments, and other studies during this school year.
The goals for the project are to explore and understand the benefits, needs, and challenges associated with using digitized books and other curricular resources, whether they are books available through the online BookServer application or elsewhere on the internet, or, textbooks and other printed materials to be scanned by the Internet Archive for the sole use of the class.
Our objectives are to support teaching and learning in class through the use of digitized books, open educational resources, and other digitized materials. Some of the research questions we may consider as we work with are:
- How does the use of BookServer and other digitized books and materials, available on student laptops, change the nature of learning in your classroom? How does it transform the perceptions about libraries?
- How will the use of digitized books and materials enable the teacher to collaborate with and support students?
- How will working this way impact student learning and success, particularly around reading and writing proficiencies?
- How might methods for working online with students in this way serve as a model for engaging with open teaching and learning content?
