The William and Flora Hewlett Foundation's 2011 Open Educational Resources Grantees Meeting, OER 2011: The Impact of Open on Teaching and Learning
The meeting is a deep dive into the "O" of the OER movement and will explore issues around shifting OER from the niche to the mainstream in the years ahead. Spanning two and a half days, the convening will highlight accomplishments by OER grantees and provide a unique opportunity for collaboration on how OER can go further to make a significant and positive impact on teachers and learners worldwide.
The meeting will take place at the historic Cavallo Point Lodge, Fort Baker, in Sausalito, California and is hosted by the Institute for the Study of Knowledge Management in Education (ISKME).

- Hike Descriptions *Remember to pack some sturdy shoes, warm/comfortable clothes, and a rain jacket (just in case) if you plan on taking a hike. It is also suggested that you bring some water with you on the hike. Please note that some hikes will be modified to allow participants to be back in time for dinner.

- Your Communications GAME Plan
- You know you need a strategic approach to communications, but where to begin? This workshop guides you along the first steps in developing an effective communications plan for your organization. Being clear about what you’re trying to accomplish and who can help you achieve your goals is key to effective communications. From there, we’ll explore a wide range of approaches you can explore to engage your audiences and move them to action on behalf of your organization and the issues you care about. You’ll leave this session with a working GAME (Goals, Audience, Message, Engagement) Plan you can put to work immediately to jump-start your communications efforts.

The meeting will take place at the historic Cavallo Point Lodge, Fort Baker, in Sausalito, California (601 Murray Circle, Fort Baker, Sausalito, CA 94965). Room rate is $214.00 per night (includes tax). All reservations must be made individually through the Lodge's Reservation Department by calling 1-888-651-2003 or by emailing (reservations@cavallopoint.com). Hotel reservations must be made by March 7 (depending on capacity, rooms may still be available after March 7. Please call to inquire. Please reference “ISKME Hewlett OER Grantee Meeting” when making your reservation. We encourage you to request and early check in if you would like to try to get into your room before 4:00 pm. Airport Transportations Suggestions to Cavallo Point Lodge
- If you are scheduling a cab or towncar pick-up at the hotel, please note that you will need at least 2 hours notice to ensure pick-up on time. Estimated cost of a cab or towncar from hotel to SFO is approximately $75 (one way).
- As noted in information provided in the link above, you can also use the Marin Airporter to arrive and depart from the hotel. The hotel provides transport to and from the bus stop where the Marin Airporter stops. Please consult the link above for directions for using the Marin Airporter for arrival to the hotel (about $20 each way). To use the Marin Airporter to get back to the airport, you will need to request a shuttle ride from the Front Desk to the Center Ave bus stop at least 2 hours before you want to depart the hotel. The Marin Airporter picks up at the Center Ave bus stop twice every hour (10 past the hour, 40 past the hour)
- If you need help coordinating transportation back to the airport after the meeting, the Lodge suggests that you stop by the front desk to make reservations the day before your departure. The front desk can help arrange cabs, towncars and shuttle services. To reach the front desk, call 415-339-4700

- Overnight parking is $20/night (valet or self-park, cost is the same). For both valet and self-park, please pull up the valet stand in front of the main building (Building A on the map link below). Upon check-in, the front desk will direct you where to park your car (if self-parking).
