The Sanchez School Green Lab

The goal of the Sanchez School Green Lab Project is to educate and inspire Sanchez students, teachers, and the community around the topics of sustainable agriculture and renewable energy.

The Green Lab will enrich each student's learning experience by giving them the opportunity to observe, investigate, explore, and share their findings throughout their research investigation on how the water, nutrients, flora, and fauna interact in this enclosed ecosystem.

Students will also have the opportunity to participate in the ISKME-facilitated challenge-based learning project, The Sun Curve Design Challenge, which takes inspiration from Inka Bioshperic Systems' gardens to empower Bay Area students to think of innovative and sustainable ways of growing food in urban areas. Together with their teachers, students will design and document their ideas regarding how to address the challenge and best-of awards will be announced in May 2010. Leveraging ISKME’s OER Commons initiative to increase engagement with high-quality, shareable curriculum, teachers will have the opportunity to attend professional development trainings to support curriculum development and sharing of science inquiry, challenge-based learning and multi-disciplinary resources to help teachers incorporate the topics of sustainable agriculture, ecology, and renewable energy into their teaching. The trainings will also enhance teacher’s digital learning and social networking skills through using online resources and collaborative tools so they can share with their peers and students.
